Guidance on how to use and care for your new Crayola All Grown Up Alcohol and Acrylic Markers.

Alcohol Markers

  • Absolutely! We've put together these quick tips to help get you started with Crayola Alcohol-Based Markers:

    • Test colours on scrap paper or on the included swatch card(s) before applying to your artwork.

    • For the best blending experience, choose two or three markers within the same colour family that share similar intensity and tonal value. Start with the darker colour, then laydown the lighter colour next to it. Use the lighter colour's brush end to blend and soften where the two colours meet.

    • Practice layering and blending techniques on simple shapes before tackling detailed art.

    • Uncoated paper works best.

Visit www.crayola.com/AllGrownUp to explore the full collection.

    • Lightening: It can work almost like an eraser on wet ink. Use it over wet ink to lighten areas or add highlights
    • Blending: Use it where two colours meet to blur and soften the gradient between the colours.
Visit www.crayola.com/AllGrownUp to explore the full collection.

  • Alcohol-based markers are made with dyes, which are naturally not lightfast. They have a lightfastness rating of 1–2 out of 5 and, while they are on the lower end of the pH scale, they are not considered archival-quality markers. To help preserve artwork created with alcohol-based markers, keep finished pieces away from direct sunlight.

Our Acrylic Markers are made with pigments and offer excellent artwork durability. They are acid-free (an archival-quality property) and have a lightfastness rating of 4–5 out of 5, meaning colours are highly resistant to fading over time.

Visit www.crayola.com/AllGrownUp to explore the full collection.

  • Alcohol-based markers naturally bleed because of their ink composition. To minimise this:

    • Choose the right paper: Look for "marker paper" or "bleed-proof" options.

    • Use a protective blotter sheet: Place thick scrap paper under your artwork to protect surfaces and other colouring pages behind it.

    • Apply light layers: Avoid oversaturating the paper with heavy ink.

  • Yes! Blending is one of the biggest advantages of alcohol-based markers. There are several ways:

Choose two or three markers within the same colour family that share similar intensity and tonal value. Start with the darker colour, then laydown the lighter colour next to it. Use the lighter colour's brush end to blend and soften where the two colours meet.

Alternatively, use a colourless blender marker: Helps soften edges and create smooth transitions. Use where two colours meet to blend together (included in the Crayola 40ct, 60ct, and 120ct sets). It can also be used to lighten darker areas or add highlights, operating similarly to how an eraser works.

Layer similar shades: Start with light tones and gradually add darker ones. Allow ink to dry before adding the next layer.

Work while wet: Blending is easiest when ink is fresh on the page.

  • Absolutely! Alcohol-based Markers work best on paper, but are versatile tools for many creative projects, including:

    • Illustrations and comic art: Ideal for smooth shading and vibrant colours.

    • Card making and scrapbooking: Adds professional-quality colour to handmade crafts.

    • Calligraphy and lettering: Great for bold, colourful designs.

    • Mixed media art: Works well with pencils, pens, and even watercolours for layered effects.

    • DIY projects: Customize items like gift tags, planner pages, home décor and decorative accents.

Just be sure to protect your work surface, and test on inconspicuous areas first to ensure you are satisfied with the outcome on the material. Crayola Alcohol-based Markers contain colourants that may stain and are permanent on most surfaces.

Adult Colouring

  • There's no wrong choice when it comes to colouring; it's all about creativity and experimenting with different combinations of tools, paper types, and colouring themes.

All Grown Up Coloring Books have paper types that have been optimised for specific tools, taking the guesswork out. When specific tools are referenced, it doesn't mean other tools won't produce colourful, display-worthy results, too. Coloring is a creative experiment waiting for you to try!

Simple Ways to Organize Adult Coloring Pages

    • Sort by theme or style
Group pages by categories like nature, patterns, seasonal designs, or inspirational artwork so it is easy to find what fits your mood. Crayola.com offers colouring pages by category, so you can match those categories or choose your own theme names!

    • Separate finished and unfinished pages
Store completed artwork in folders, binders, or portfolios, and keep uncoloured pages together so they are always ready when inspiration strikes.

    • Use sheet protectors or portfolios
Clear sleeves help prevent smudging and bending, especially when working with markers or layered colour.

    • Label as your collection grows
Simple labels make it easier to stay organised over time and avoid mixing different types of designs.

    • Store pages flat in a dry space
Keeping pages flat and protected helps preserve colour quality and paper condition.
