Yes, all Crayola® and Silly Putty® products are non-toxic and safe to use. Crayola has been a trusted brand in homes and schools for over 100 years, prioritizing safety since 1903.

Independent toxicologists consistently evaluate our products, confirming they contain no known toxic substances in quantities sufficient to harm the human body, even if ingested or inhaled. Both Crayola and Silly Putty art materials carry the Art and Creative Materials Institute's (ACMI) APPROVED PRODUCT (AP) seal, indicating they meet or exceed specific quality standards.

If your pet has ingested a Crayola or Silly Putty product, please contact a veterinarian for assistance. All Crayola and Silly Putty products have been evaluated by an independent toxicologist and found to contain no known toxic substances in sufficient quantities to be harmful to the human body, even if ingested or inhaled. In addition, Crayola and Silly Putty art materials carry the Art and Creative Materials Institute's (ACMI) APPROVED PRODUCT (AP) seal, which indicates these products meet or exceed specific quality standards.

While we love finding new ways to create with our modeling compounds, at Crayola, the safety of our artists is our top priority.

Crayola modeling compounds are not meant to be made into candlesticks or similar items that would come in contact with open flames and high heat sources. For that reason, we do not recommend using Crayola modeling compounds, wet or dry, near an open flame, in an oven, microwave, or kiln. Exposure to high heat sources may cause drying out, cracking, and browning.

By definition, acid-free is having a pH of 6.5 to 8.0. Currently, the following Crayola® products meet an "acid-free" definition, having a pH of 6.5 to 8.0:

• Crayons
• Take Note! Permanent Markers
• Ultra Fine Point Doodle Markers

Many Crayola products do not state age recommendations on packaging because the age when a child is ready to begin using art products varies from child to child. Some children are ready to use art products at a very early age, while others may not show an interest until later. The basic ingredients contained in Crayola® Crayons are paraffin wax and colour pigment. These ingredients are the same for all Crayola Crayon colours, with some modifications in special effects crayons.

Crayola Crayons begin to melt at around 105° Fahrenheit and have a melting point between 120° - 147° Fahrenheit. The melting point is the same for all regular Crayola Crayons; however, the density and amount of pigment included in different crayons will result in varying thickness or viscosity of the mixture.

Crayola® Air-Dry Clay can be sealed once your piece is completely dry after 72 hours. Once dry, we suggest using an acrylic varnish. Make sure to test its compatibility with the varnish before applying it to a finished piece.

Sealing your work will not waterproof it. Exposure to water and outdoor elements will have a negative effect on the Air-Dry Clay, so we recommend displaying your sculpture indoors.

Absolutely! Alcohol-based Markers work best on paper, but are versatile tools for many creative projects, including:

• Illustrations and comic art: Ideal for smooth shading and vibrant colors.

• Card making and scrapbooking: Adds professional-quality color to handmade crafts.

• Calligraphy and lettering: Great for bold, colorful designs.

• Mixed media art: Works well with pencils, pens, and even watercolors for layered effects.

• DIY projects: Customize items like gift tags, planner pages, home décor and decorative accents.

Just be sure to protect your work surface, and test on inconspicuous areas first to ensure you are satisfied with the outcome on the material. Crayola Alcohol-based Markers contain colorants that may stain and are permanent on most surfaces.

Because Crayola® Marker components are securely sealed during the manufacturing process, we don't recommend trying to remove the marker nib and reservoir to recycle the barrel. The marker caps can be recycled at facilities that accept #5 plastic.

Yes, Crayola® Model Magic® pieces can be sealed once they are completely dry. The drying time for Model Magic generally takes 24 hours to dry to the touch and 72 hours (about 3 days) to dry completely.

How to seal dried Model Magic sculptures:

1. Apply a thin layer of acrylic varnish to a test sample to check for compatibility before using it on the finished piece.
2. If the varnish is compatible, apply an even coat over the entire sculpture.
3. Allow the varnish to dry completely before handling your masterpiece.

Important Note: Sealing your work will not make it waterproof. Exposure to water and outdoor elements will negatively affect Model Magic, so it is best to display your sculpture indoors.
